Why Should we Go Green?
March 18, 2016

'Going Green' seems to be all the rave. But why? Why is it so important to 'Go Green'? The number one reason consumers are looking into green alternatives is health. And why not? Our health should be of the utmost importance. Exercise, organic foods and low emission vehicles are some of the more common ways to 'go green'. But what about our homes? Where we sleep, eat, entertain our friends, and raise our children shouldn't that also be healthy?
Of course it should!

Where to Start 'greening' up the Home?

There are many factors that need to be taken into account when looking to build, purchase or create a healthy home. The air quality, the water, the lighting and the energy are just a few areas that need to be addressed. The smaller areas such as the Eco-friendly furniture, rugs and towels can be addressed one at a time.

Green Real Estate Agents

We as a society have become more educated in the ways of green building. Many real estate professionals today have a Green Designation signifying that they have the knowledge that you are looking for when looking for a healthy home alternative. There are four green real estate designations available.

  1. Accredited Green Agent and Accredited Green Broker
  2. EcoBroker Certified
  3. Sustainability Training for Accredited Real Estate Professionals (S.T.A.R)
  4. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP designations

Other reasons for a Healthy Home

Return on your investment. Your home is probably the largest investment that you have made. Think of the increase on the re-sale value if you can advertise that your home for sale is 'green'. One of the simplest ways to achieve this goal is simply replacing your appliances with LEED certified appliances. As an added bonus, when you exchange your appliances for LEED certified appliances, your utility bills will also decrease.

You begin each day and end each day in your home, consider making it as healthy as the you do the other aspects of your life..
